Problem: How to create a Primavera Contractor database.
Fix: Navigate to the Database folder on the CD.  Double click on ConfigAsst.exe


Choose ‘Create a new Primavera database’, enter the Product key and click ‘Next’.



Choose ‘Microsoft SQL Server or MSDE’ and check the ‘Include sample project data’ box.  Click ‘Next’.



Choose ‘Project Management Database (PMDB).  Clilck ‘Next’.



Choose ‘Create database and load application data’. 


Be sure the ‘Load license key file’ box is checked. 


Click the folder button and browse to the CD and select the ‘pmdb.lic’ file located on the root of the CD. 


Click ‘Next’.



Enter the SQL Server administrative username and password (The Admin Name is ‘sa’ by default.  The Admin password was defined when installing MSDE). 


Enter the Server Name (This is the full computer name and can be found by right clicking on My Computer and selecting ‘Properties’.  For Windows 2000, select the ‘Network Identification’ tab.  For Windows XP, choose the ‘Computer Name’ tab.  Localhost can also be used as the Server Name.)


Click ‘Next’.



Manually enter the Database name of ‘PCONDB’ (This is the only database name that Contractor will be looking for). 


Click ‘Next’.



Choose ‘YES, I want to create database tables and structure’. 


Click ‘Next’.



Structure is being created……..



Click ‘Next’ to Load Application Data



Loading Application Data…….



Click ‘Finish’ to complete the database creation.

Fix: It is not possible to change this information without installing a new license file.  If this is required, please contact technical support who will get the required information and generate the new license file.

Problem: Users received the following message when logging into myPrimavera on a Weblogic server

“The Server is not licensed for this operation.Connection rejected, the server license allows connections from only 5 unique IP addresses”


The software vendor BEA who produces Weblogic provides a demo or eval license file that contains licensing for 5 IP addresses to interact with the Weblogic server. If that number is exceeded, the message above is provided.

Fix: To resolve this problem, upgrade the BEA installation to a non-evalutation license. This license can be purchased from Primavera or directly from BEA. (www.BEA.com)

Fix: This is caused by entering an incorrect database login during the dbconfig wizard.

Because you are modifying data in the database, you have to use the privuser (or equivalent) user name and password.

  • Browse to the Interbase\pmdb folder on the documentation CD.

  • Copy the pmdb.gdb file, then paste it in a folder on your hard drive.

  • Once it is copied, right-click on the pmdb.gdb file on your hard drive and choose properties.  Remove the read only attribute by unchecking read only.

2.  Create a connection to your new database:

Fix: The ability to include the Title of User Defined Fields, Activity Codes, Project Codes, or Resource Codes in the XML output is in an existing enhancement request. 

Workaround:


XSLT can be used to transform the XML document into whatever it needs to look like.  However, if the need is for the XML document to conform to a valid schema, XSLT can be used to transform our schema file (or edit it directly).  Programs like XMLSpy,  Microsoft’s Office 2003  with Front Page Graphical XSL editor, and JAXP with an XML transformer can be used.

  • Go to the Resource Dictionary.  Highlight the Resource in question, and go to the Timesheets tab. 

  • Uncheck the Option for “Uses Timesheets”.

Fix: GDB files can be copied to network drives for archiving / backup purposes only.

Primavera does not recommend, nor support, networked GDB files for use of the database.


The Interbase server, the GDB file(s) and license must reside on the same machine.


Workaround:


Upgrade to Primavera 5.0.  Interbase has been phased out and replaced by MSDE which can support networked database files.

A Database Archive File (DAF) is a ZIP archiving containing Delphi Client Dataset (CDS) versions of the tables from the database.ConfigAsst Line Mode (CALM) can be used to create a new DAF from an existing database or load a database from a DAF.The following functions are available in CALM:


 



  • Create DAF file from Oracle, SQL Server/MSDE and InterBase

  • Create and load new Oracle, SQL Server/MSDE and InterBase database from DAF

  • Automatically upgrade loaded database to current schema

  • Convert interbase to MSDE

  • Optionally load license file

  • Optionally load ADMIN_CONFIG data

 


Requirements to Run CALM


 


CALM has the same requirements as ConfigAsst:

  • ConfigAsst data directory (this is available from CD1 of the installation disk set at \install\database\data)

 


Like ConfigAsst, CALM can be run from a read-only directory.Additionally, CALM requires copies of database source code for previous schema.These are held in .PTV files that must be provided with a build.

Cause: In 5.0 there is now a Space in the ODBC DSN name for the SDK, in 4.x it was PrimaveraSDK in 5.0 Primavera SDK
Fix: 1) Open up the ODBC administrator from the control panel

2) Go to the SystemDSN tab and if there is a PrimaveraSDK, highlight it and hit remove.  It is most likely left over from 4.x



3) Click on the add button, and choose Primavera Software development kit from the list.


 


4) Click the finish button


5) Give the DSN a name of PrimaveraSDK



6) Hit the OK button.

Problem: How does Primavera use Microsoft SQL Server CAL ( Client Access License ) licenses?
Problem: When using a 5 CAL user license for Microsoft SQL Server 2000, will multiple Primavera clients accessing the database be seen as one connection or will each use a CAL license?
Fix: Each Primavera Project Management client user accessing a SQL Server database will use a separate CAL, or Client Access License.  

Licensing is the same for the web application server as well.  Although the application server is only making one physical connection to the database, according to Microsoft you will need to have a CAL for each end-user accessing the software through a web browser.


If the number of users is an issue, an alternative is to purchase a Microsoft SQL Server Processor license.

Problem: What access in myPrimavera does a Project Management license give?
Problem: Does a Project Management 5.x/6.x license give me access to myPrimavera Projects?
Fix: Yes.  When version 5.x/6.x is installed, the program will grant every user who has access to Project Management access to myPrimavera Projects. 

You do not need to do anything within the software to enable this.


Note: This is not reflected in the license file.  This is done internally within the application.


Note: This does not include the Portfolios or Resources view of myPrimavera.  A separate license needs to be assigned for those.


Note: Total number of licenses are spread between the two modules.  This means that if you have 5 concurrent users for Project Management, you will only be allowed to have 5 total users logged into PM and myPrimavera at a time.
